Urban agriculture reduces poverty as well as food insecurity that results from urbanization and improves the health of citizens and preserves the environment. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has defined urban agriculture as “the growing of plants and the raising of animals within and around cities” to provide fresh food, generate employment, recycle waste, and strengthen cities’ resilience to climate change. These twelve organizations, operating in different cities around the world, each contribute to the city’s urban agriculture in their own way.
