EV charging consumes as much energy as random household devices

According to the US Department of Energy (DOE), charging an EV consumes less energy than typical household devices. DOE data showed that the highest share in annual energy consumption for a typical household is home heating with about (11,300 kWh), followed by water heating (4,700 kWh) and charging an electric car (2,800 kWh).

Based on average driving habits and consumption rates, an EV just needs twice as much energy annually as a refrigerator.
