The global averaged CO2 level reached 400 parts per million in 2015 which is a significant milestone when it comes to reducing greenhouse gas. This magnitude has been reached before but only for certain month and in certain locations, never on a global average basis for the whole year. The “El Niño”phenomenon fuelled the rise in CO2 emissions. El Niño caused droughts in tropical regions and reduced the capacity of forests, vegetation and the oceans to absorb CO2. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and partners are developing an Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System. The system is supposed to provide information so that nations can track the progress toward implementation of their own emission pledges, improve national emission reporting and inform additional mitigation actions.
