The African Development Bank (AfDB) approved the proposal by the Bank’s Management to serve as Trustee to administer and manage the resources of Africa Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) and also to host the AREI Independent Delivery Unit. The AREI was launched at the COP21 in Paris December last year. The initiative receives strong international support. It aims at using renewable energy resources to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals such as enhancing well-being, economic development and ensuring access to clean and affordable energy.
