In Australia a consortium of electricity providers, energy tech startups, energy retailers and energy agencies has launched a digital marketplace where owners of solar panels and batteries can trade their electricity. The platform is called “Decentralised Energy Exchange” (deX) and it was launched on Thursday. The digital marketplace shows quite clearly the shift in energy production from a centralized model of large-scale power plants to a decentralized model of rooftop solar. Homeowners are not seen as only energy customers anymore but as participants in the energy grid.
