NASA’s new modular supercomputing system called “Electra” at the Ames Research Center is very special when it comes to efficiency and environmental friendliness. The system uses a fan technology that needs less than 10 percent of the energy of mechanical refrigeration systems. It will save about 1 million kWh of electricity and 1,3 million gallons of water annually. The whole system consists of container modules that can be added or removed it depends on how much computer power is needed.
