Navigant Research’s latest report reveals an additional global installation of over 54 gigawatts of new wind. Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas, has once again led the way in 2016. The report also indicates a cumulative global wind power capacity at 486.831 GW. China saw a dip from 30.293 GW in 2015 to 23.328GW in 2016. Apart from China, growth was traced in every other wind market in Asia, Americas, Europe and Africa. Offshore capacity was increased up to 13.5 GW. GE Energy and Goldwind were the next leaders in the industry. Jesse Broehl, senior research analyst, Navigant Research said,” The wind industry in 2016 had another stellar year with 54.3 GW of new wind capacity added. The drop in capacity installation in China, plus recent mergers and acquisitions, shook up the annual ranking and market shares of global wind turbine manufacturers. As a result, more Western turbine vendors are in the top 10 ranking in 2016 versus 2015 — some with record capacity additions.”
