The European Green Capital initiative has been handed out by the European Commission since 2010. The Norwegian capital city, Oslo has been named European Green Capital for 2019, following other Scandinavian capitals such as Copenhagen and Stockholm.
Oslo is already very ambitious in terms of sustainability: it is leading in the number of electric cars per capita than any other city in the world and targets at becoming carbon neutral by 2050. In general, Oslo aims at reducing the share of cars on the roads by 10% and wants to increase the usage and availability of public transport.
