TomTom, in partnership with Cisco, is developing ultra-fast lane level traffic technology for autonomous driving and smarter mobility. Combining the data provided by Cisco’s sensors, routers and controllers and TomTom’s traffic fusion technology, the two companies want to create the next generation of traffic information technology, reducing latency and improving accuracy of real time traffic services.
The innovative aspect is the utilization of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology to transform fiber optic cables into arrays of virtual microphones to detect and measure vehicle movements.
