Google funds tech hub for marginalized communities

Blue1647, a nonprofit that acts as a key hub for the Chicago Tech Plan, has received $500,000 in funds from Google.org, the philanthropy arm of Google. The Chicago Tech Plan seeks to correct sparse exposure to technology and technology education, a lack of role models and proactive local mentorship in the city’s tech scene to “reflects the diversity and vitality of the city itself.”

Working towards those priorities, the grants will go towards Blue1647’s STEM and computer science offerings, which include Code Chicago web development workshops, tech organization Latina Girls Code, and Paige & Paxton.
