China Merchants New Energy Group has worked with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to realize a solar power project that is going to cover 1,500 acres with solar panels. What is more, it looks like a giant panda from the air, raising awareness about clean energy among young people in China.
The first panda was completed in June, but it is only the first of several. A 50 megawatt solar installation that will produce 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of solar energy over the next 25 years, one panda alone decreases carbon emissions by 2.74 million tons. Construction for number two will begin later this year.
