The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is working with Panasonic and Xcel Energy on a smart-city concept south of the Denver International Airport dubbed Peña Station NEXT, an “energy- and health-conscious community built for the next 100 years.”
There, Panasonic will test a range of technologies including smart street lighting, a solar parking garage and autonomous shuttles. DOE will test the capabilities of its Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) while demonstrating URBANopt software, a buildings and district energy modeling tool.
