E.ON has confirmed the completion of the installation and grid connection of what is now one of the UK’s largest batteries. The 10MW battery at its Blackburn Meadows biomass plant near Sheffield is considered a “milestone in the new energy world and an important recognition of the enormous potential for battery solutions in the UK”.
After the successful bid in National Grid’s Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) tender, the grid may now be balanced by delivering power at less than a second’s notice. The battery can store an amount of energy equivalent to what 500,000 mobile phone batteries can.
