Urban innovations company Sidewalk Labs, a subsidiary of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, and the Canadian government announced a collaboration yesterday to develop a high-tech living laboratory in Toronto.
“Sidewalk Labs will create a test bed for new technologies in Quayside,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said. “Technologies to build smarter, greener, more inclusive cities, which we hope to see scaled across Toronto’s eastern waterfront, and eventually in other parts of Canada and around the world.”
The area along Toronto’s waterfront covers 750 acres, and will be the largest urban redevelopment project in North America.
