The government of Victoria is planning to ban single-use lightweight plastic shopping bags, but is thinking hard about how to do it right. The city has committed to consultation with businesses and the community to make sure that something like increasing use of equally harmful bin liners does not happen.
The ban will hit the most common contaminants of the household recycling bin, plastic bags with recyclables, plastic bags with general waste and empty plastic bags.
