Researchers at McGill University might have managed to solve a major problem of hip replacements: common replacements are actually too strong, meaning that they reduce stress that the living bone has to bear. Thereby the still living bone becomes weaker. The solution now seems to be a 3D-printed titanium hip replacement that can imitate an actual bone so that the healthy bone still works hard and stays healthy for longer. The new hip replacements are planned to be introduced in about a couple of years.
