Power generator provider Aggreko has announced that the company reached an agreement with Younicos to buy the battery technology specialist for £40 million. As a leading provider of temporary generators to many clients and events, Aggreko is looking to cement its position in the global smart grid and energy storage market.
Younicos builds modular battery storage systems that are integrated with smart control functionality, and they already have 200MW of storage systems installed globally.
“As energy markets continue to decarbonise, decentralise and become more digital, the integration and control of multiple energy sources, including thermal and renewable, will be essential to ensure the provision of reliable power,” said Chris Weston, Aggreko chief executive.
