In the framework of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) last week in Bangkok, ASEAN and the UN discussed regional economic cooperation and integration in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
While officials of the UN highlighted issues such as an integrated market, seamless connectivity, financial cooperation and shared vulnerabilities and risks, ASEAN spokespersons identified their priorities as promoting inclusive economic growth, people-oriented and people-centered development, and the investment into education, science and technology.
As a region prone to natural disasters, ASEAN also uttered the urgent need to build community resilience during the policy dialogue.
