Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that the government would not impose a carbon tax or an emissions trading scheme in Australia. This has especially frustrated energy firms that supported the sheme. As one of the largest carbon emitters worldwide this move is very counterproductive in terms of meeting the carbon reduction goals. The government wants to receive 23,5 percent of Australia’s energy from renewables by 2020. Yet, all states have more ambitious goals to cut emissions.
