Battelle is collaborating with Rare Earth Salts (RES) on a project entitled Recovery of High Purity Rare Earth Elements (REEs) from Coal Ash via a Novel Separations Process. The goal is to produce rare earth oxides from coal fly ash in order to then convert them to achieve the high purities that are necessary for sale.
The companies will combine Battelle’s Acid Digestion Process with RES’ novel separation and purification process to create environmentally benign and economically sustainable REE products with purities over 90 percent. The partners are working with a total funding of $875,000.
