A new report suggests that the coalition of major fashion retailers that signed Sustainable Clothing Action Plan (SCAP) are on track to meet 2020 targets to reduce the waste, carbon, and water footprint of clothing they produce. Water use per ton of clothing is already down by 13.5 percent, very close to the 2020 goal of 15 percent. Carbon emissions have been cut by 10.6 percent against 15 percent as well, and waste per ton of clothing has been slashed by 0.8 percent, with the goal being 3.5 percent for 2020.

“I am delighted by how well SCAP signatories are doing,” Steve Creed, director of business programmes at WRAP, the waste advisory body that runs SCAP, said in a statement.

Signatories include Asos, Next, Primark, Whistles, and many more.
