Britvic, owner of Robinson’s squash and Fruit Shoots, is making relevant progress on moulding and processing techniques of bottles made from sustainable wood fiber. Working with Innovate UK and UK company Natural Resources for the last few years, they even managed to produce wooden bottle tops.
As patents on the techniques are pending, Britvic is hopeful yet reserved as it is not certain the bottles will be a success. Coating and production are still problems that have to be addressed to make the sustainable bottles financially viable. That said, the achievement is still considered a breakthrough.
Other manufacturers such as Carlsberg have already experimented with wooden fiber as a material as well.
