The Chinese and French space agencies have announced that the countries are collaborating to launch a new satellite into orbit to understand and predict ocean storms and cyclones better. The China-France Oceanography Satellite (CFOSAT) works with two separate radar systems, one to measure the wavelength and direction of ocean waves developed by the French, and one to measure the direction and strength of wind developed by the Chinese.
The main goal of the project is to improve upon the accuracy of forecasts for storms, hurricanes, and cyclones.
