Inaugurated on Monday, the Sahiwal coal-fired power plant is the first major energy project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). With 660-megawatt units, it is expected to generate billion kwh of electricity every year, and thus will address one fourth of Pakistan’s power deficit. This amounts to electricity for 10 million locals, and it will also help shorten periods of power cut in the country.
The Chinese energy authority will further strengthen bilateral economic cooperation with Pakistan to facilitate the construction of CPEC.
