As part of a plan to increase its solar capacity to 5,000 megawatts with the biggest solar energy park of the world by 2030, Dubai has finished a $327 million solar power plant in the desert ahead of schedule. The country plans to generate 10 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2020, and the course is set for the park to finish in 2030 to reduce Dubai’s reliance on oil and gas.
The 200 megawatt plant just finished was developed by ACWA Power International of Saudi Arabia, and the generated solar power will be bought by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
