The Synlight experiment in Jülich, Germany, tries to find the best possible setup for concentrate natural sunlight in order to produce hydrogen fuel. The researchers are creating a reaction to extract hydrogen from water vapor with 149 special film projector spotlights directed at the same spot. The installation is more than just energy-intensive right now, but the team’s hopes are high to fast-track the search for a way to use light sources to generate environmentally friendly fuel.
