As a result of a collaboration between electric vehicle charging company Virta, Nissan and energy company Helen, Europe’s first public vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charge point will be installed at event venue Suvilahti in Helsinki, Finland.

The charge point will help not only with charging cars, but with delivering power that is not needed back to the grid at times of peak demand.

“With the V2G charging point we can utilize the battery of a car as a part of the energy system,” explained Helen’s unit manager Perttu Lahtinen. “In the future EVs are not just a burden, but a complementary feature in the electricity grid. Helen is testing the practical operation of V2G at the Suvilahti pilot site.”
