Ford is joining other car companies, such as Volvo and Toyota, in developing systems that can detect pedestrians. It does so by means of cameras and radar. In case of a pedestrian walking onto the street, the car sends a visual and audible alarm to the driver. If the driver does not react, the system can make the car break by itself. So far however, the pedestrian-detection system only works when the car drives at low speeds and when the weather is bright. More development and reasearch is needed before the system can be commercialized.
