Ford announced a giant pilot program in the framework of which their vehicles will be integrated into the Lyft application. During times of high demand, they will be dispatched to customers. First and foremost, the project was conceived to find out how to create a technology platform that can connect seamlessly with another brand’s platform, and explore what an infrastructure that can maintain autonomous cars would look like.
Safety and dependability are chief concerns for the company as customers have to trust the technology to use it. “We expect that our partnership with Lyft will accelerate our efforts to build a profitable and viable self-driving vehicle business,” Sherif Marakby, Ford’s vice president of autonomous vehicles and electrification, said.
