GE and Southern California Edison (SCE) have unveiled an innovative battery-gas turbine hybrid system, the LM6000 Hybrid Electric Gas Turbine (Hybrid EGT). In contrast to conventional peakers, the LM6000 requires no time to start and reach full load because of its battery. Integrating this 10 MW/4.3 MWh battery energy storage system, the units will help balance out renewable energy and demand fluctuations, and offer cost-competitive add-ons to existing systems.
