India’s government plans 3,1 billion USD of state aid for India’s solar panel industry. The extra fund is aimed at lifting India’s installed photovoltaic capacity as well as creating an export industry. Moreover, as one of the biggest clients, the country wants to decrease its reliance on Chinas photovoltaic products. The Indian prime minister Modi wants to raise the renewable capacity to 175 gigawatts by 2022 from 45 gigawatts at present. The policy was developed by the ministry in charge of renewable energy and industrial policy.
