Smart metering company Itron signed a definitive agreement to acquire demand response provider Comverge for roughly $100 million. Comverge, operating 2.7 gigawatts of demand response projects for just under 30 utilities, will serve as venue for Itron’s OpenWay Riva platform, a IPv6, multi-communications grid edge networking technology stack. “We change the game when we combine demand response and energy efficiency with the edge applications. OpenWay Riva delivers demand response applications on the edge of the network, not just in the back office,” CEO of Itron Philip Mezey says.
