Nomura Asset Management Co., Ltd. (NAM) and Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (NRI) have conducted a proof of concept study to research natural language processing utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) together. Being one of the first projects to score analyst reports using AI, the goal was to examine whether AI analysis would help to improve the accuracy of portfolio managers’ investment decision-making.
Results showed that using AI enabled the quantitative assessment of information which portfolio managers normally see as qualitative. Text information from news websites and blogs could also be used to improve decision-making. Further proof of concept studies are in line to develop the AI.
