According to new data provided by National Grid today, low-carbon power sources such as wind, solar, biomass and nuclear have supplied a record level of electricity generation over the summer of this year, making 2017 the greenest summer in history.
Low-carbon sources amounted to around 52 percent of electricity generation between June 21 and September 22, 17 percent more than four years ago.
National Grid also announced the launch of a tool to help consumers understand the best times for grid power use by predicting the carbon intensity of a national grid ahead of time. WWF and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) are part of the project.
