New clean energy network for cities established

Several cities from the U.S., Europe and Asia have formed a partnership called the Urban Transition Alliance (UTA), and its goal is to aid post-industrial cities in utilizing clean energy to recover from their current economic slump.

ICLEI will manage the alliance with funding from Stiftung Mercator, will develop an online platform for cities to share goals, policies and knowledge, and arrange physical meetings.

Right now, seven cities are part of the program. These include Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Beijing and Essen, Germany.
