The city of New York is a good example to show the benefits of cities’ efforts to provide mental-health services in public schools. New York has launched 54 initiatives under the banner of “ThriveNYC” which is a 850 million USD strategy to improve mental-health care. Part of the initiatives is to train teachers to help students in their development of a so-called “emitional resilience”. In more detail this implies the development of a system to e.g. screen and treat 80 percent of new mothers for post-partum depression and deploying 400 professionals in health centers and clinics. According to Deputy Mayor Richard Buery, mental health affects the ability of a city to live and thrive.
