Decidim, an open- source platform for participatory democracy is a sign of digital but also social transformation. The platform functions as a database and also as political statement and was organized by the Barcelona City Council to foster participation of Barcelona’s citizens to improve democratic and digital commons involvement. After hosting several organization events, nearly 40,000 people and 1,500 organizations contributed 10,000 suggestions to decide on a strategic city plan. Decidim was born as a protest movement, where citizens decided to want to play an active role in participating in democracy in their city.
