Physicists at the University of Arkansas in collaboration with a scientist at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology have demonstrated the potential of antiferroelectrics for storage of renewable energy. As batteries and supercapacitors cannot react quickly enough to changing production conditions, and electrostatic capacitors cannot hold enough energy for large-scale use, antiferroelectrics might lead to storage devices that improve the efficiency of wind and solar power as they can do both.

The researchers published their findings in May in the journal Nature Communications.
