San Francisco wants to turn ‘spaces under freeways’ into attractive leisure areas

San Francisco thinks of turning spaces under freeways into attractive public facilities, such as parks. In this matter, SF is joining the ranks of cities, like Miami or New York in redesigning and rethinking shaded areas formerly designated to parking. However, as these spaces are not state-owned, the California governor awaits a bill that would give SF the opportunity to rent each plot at a 70 percent discount once the individual leases expire and turn them into attractive public spaces. The city would pay for building and mainting the new spaces and renting the parcels would be at $ 1 million per year.
