Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems have been in use for hydropower and wind power for a while, but for solar energy, monitoring has been enough due to overdesign. Now, the SunSpec Alliance, a trade alliance of more than 100 solar and storage distributed energy industry stakeholders is altering the status quo by using solar and storage to help firm up the grid.
Solar equipment sold or put in service in the state of California has to be SunSpec compliant from now on, enabling easy implementation for SCADA.
