Reinvigorating the energy system of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria is estimated to take some time. In the meantime the island is without electricity which impedes the redevelopment overall. Experts suggest that instead of investing into re-establishing the former energy infrastructure, it might be a suitable situation to turn to solar energy. In long-term, the island’s sustainability and independence from foreign energy sources would increase. However also in short-term, installing microgrids powered by solar energy could provide power quicker.
