Will drones be able to reverse global deforestation? Image source: Shutterstock (#512948026)

To reverse the deforestation trend of past years, startup BioCarbon has designed a platform that first maps a specific area to pinpoint arable locations before dropping seeds in a biodegradable housing to ensure germination with drones. The drones are estimated to be able to seed up to 100.000 trees a day each, and with 60 teams, BioCarbon hopes to plant more than a billion trees each year.

Today, trees are mostly planted by hand, which is exceedingly inefficient and expensive. With BioCarbon’s drones, not only are seeding rates increased ten fold, but expenses are just 20 percent of the outdated by-hand method.
