In the Netherlands, recycled toilet paper beginning to be used to pave streets in a more environmentally friendly manner. A 1-kilometer stretch of the bike roadway got it started.
The Dutch pave their streets with a porous and water permeable blacktop called open-graded asphalt friction course (OGFC), which requires cellulose. Instead of destroying the cellulose toilet paper is made of in an expensive incineration process, it is extracted from waste streams. Apart from asphalt mixes, it can also be used for pulp and paper, filters, building insulation, biofuel and textiles.
