SB 1000, an innovative environmental justice policy now mandated for all municipalities throughout California, requires cities to consider environmental justice in their planning processes. The success National City has had with the policy also resulted in a toolkit and guide of best practices released by the California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA), which co-sponsored SB 1000.
The toolkit, for example, focuses on more compact, mixed-use development of affordable housing and syncing up with public transit.
