Uber builds AI team in Toronto

In order to improve its autonomous vehicle software, Uber Technologies Inc. is building a new artificial intelligence team in Toronto. This AI team will be a part of Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group and will be lead an expert in AI and computer vision at University of Toronto, Raquel Urtasun. MaRS Discovery District will host Uber’s AI offices and Uber is also investing $5 million over several years in the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence at the university. Meric Gertler, president of the University of Toronto said, ” The University of Toronto has long been considered a global leader in artificial intelligence research. That’s why we’re so pleased to see Professor Raquel Urtasun, one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of machine perception, take on this incredibly exciting role.”
