UK could save £7.5 billion with energy efficiency

Experts at the UK Energy Research Centre have calculated that a quarter of current energy use in heating and electricity could be cut by more efficient use of energy. Another quarter would be cut with investments into solid wall insulations, heat pumps and demand management technology, but right now, there are too few incentives for households to use energy responsibly and take measures like insulation.

Substantial changes in government policy could save power equivalent to what six nuclear reactors could generate, saving each household £270 a year.
