Food waste technology firm Winnow has announced that it secured $7.4 million in a fundraising round, and is using that money to roll out the Winnow Waste Monitor, a food waste fighting monitor for professional chefs.

“This fundraising announcement is a key milestone in our journey and validation that our technology is driving real value for our clients,” Winnow co-founder Mark Zornes said in a statement.

The company claims that the device can reduce food purchasing costs for kitchens by up to eight percent, and food waste by up to 50 percent, both within the first 12 months of use.

Clients of Winnow include IKEA, Compass Group and Carnival Cruises.
