The World Resources Institute (WRI) recently announced that a partnership with OpenAQ and Development Seed will work to grant more users access air quality data from around the world through the OpenAQ open source platform, and thus help people contribute to the cause to improve air quality. Air quality data coverage across the world still does not cover a lot of countries, and the partners and the user community of OpenAQ want to change that.

There are already tons of projects behind the data requests. Several tools communicating real-time air quality to the public are being developed, various open-source projects are making it easier to access and visualize the data. Other projects are aiding in calibrating low-cost sensors or as a data layer for comparisons. The system is also used to inform a real-time wild fire model and predict air quality in some of the most polluted places in the world.
