Daimler, Volkswagen, Ford & BMW team up for European EV charging network

Daimler, Volkswagen, Ford, and BMW have formed a partnership to build a network of 400 fast charger locations along major travel routes in Europe. This follows a announcement earlier this year that revealed that the companies were collaborating on the issue.

The network will go by the name of Ionity, and will use the CCS charging standard, with each station having a maximum power of 350 kW.

“The first pan-European HPC network plays an essential role in establishing a market for electric vehicles,” CEO Michael Hajesch said in the news release. “Ionity will deliver our common goal of providing customers with fast charging and digital payment capability to facilitate long-distance travel.”

Construction will start in Germany, Austria, and Norway by the end of 2017, and the network is set to be completed in 2020.
