Auto supplier Robert Bosch and mapmaker TomTom are partnering for the development of a high-resolution mapping system which will use Bosch’s radar sensors. Intended to be used in autonomous vehicles, this technology will help determine the vehicles’ location within centimeters. TomTom will integrate the generated data from radar sensors into their mapping system. Dirk Hoheisel, Bosch board member said,”Cars arriving on the market in years to come with the assistance functions of tomorrow will be running the map for the automated vehicles of the future.” Bosch plans to start the collection of data by 2020 and will need a fleet of 1 million vehicles to collect information via radar sensors in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
